A critical element to playing football is weight training. You have to strengthen your body to better your play. Speed and strength are a result of both heavy weights and basic lifts in your workouts. Both of which are necessary for a football player.
Learn to properly play football using both feet so that you can better your speed, along with your overall play. Most people are better with one foot than the other. If you learn to adapt to using your other foot, you can really pick up the pace and out maneuver opponents better.
Stiff Arm
If you are a receiver or running back, try bettering your stiff arm. A good stiff arm fends off defenders and helps you to gain extra yards. All you have to do is hold your arm straight out.
Score many touchdowns. This is your goal in any game. A player has to run the ball through the other team’s defense or catch a pass after they cross into the end zone. If the ball is held over that line, a touchdown is made. Each touchdown is worth six points.
Always warm up before working out, practicing or playing. Getting sidelined with an injury can mean time off the field, ranging from days or weeks to even entire seasons or life. Stretch all of your muscles before you begin.
Improve the flexibility of your hips by using five cones, placed about five yards apart and in a line. Start down by one side of your cones and make a zigzag pattern, running between each set at maximum speed. Lean towards your target, keep your eyes up and looking down field.
Always know how much time is on the clock, making sure to use it. If it’s near the end of the game and you have got the ball and you are down, don’t try running down the clock.
Are you looking to play football in college? Video yourself. You need to show in video your abilities, including your speed, strength, agility, and accuracy. Highlight all your special skills so that a coach can see why you would be a valuable member of the team.
Outside Linebackers
You must learn the basic defensive positions. There is a total of eight. They are the nose tackle, defensive tackle, defensive end, two safety players, corner back, and two outside linebackers. Some 4/3 games have 2 outside linebackers and 1 inside linebacker, while some 3/4 games have 2 outside linebackers and 2 inside linebackers. The two safety positions are strong safety and free safety.
